Miehiltä nähtiin kauden parasta peliä

Plokin miesten joukkueen vuoden 2022 viimeisessä turnauksessa puhalsivat uudet tuulet, kun valmentajana aloitti Mikko Pesonen ja pelaajavahvistuksena LiigaPlokin päävalmentaja Kim Buchwald. Joukkueen pelaaja Jami Piippo kertoo raportissaan, miten turnaus eteni.

The men had the best game of the season

New winds blew in the last tournament of Ploki’s men’s team in 2022, when Mikko Pesonen started as coach and LiigaPloki’s head coach Kim Buchwald started as player confirmation. Team player Jami Piippo tells in his report how the tournament progressed.

Our triple series tournament day started at 9:45 a.m. when the first players came to the hall – that is, me and the team’s newest top acquisition straight from Denmark. Kimi and I exchanged a few words, and when the others arrived, we started to get the hall ready for play.

Wartti–Ploki: Good fight

In the first game, the opponent was Vehniän Wartti. The starting six consisted of Kim Buchwald, Jussi-Akseli Körkkö, Ossi Pärnänen, Jere Marjoniemi, Jami Piippo, Petri Myllynen, Miko Siekkinen as libero and none other than Mikko Pesonen as the head coach.

The beginning of the set started out tight, but from time to time the fight was good. The level of performance was only low, so the opponent progressed to an 8–4 situation. That’s when we put the gear shift on all the way to 12-9. Then the level of performance dropped again. In the situation 16–12, Mikko took a timeout, where we decided that now we will go past the opponent.

Then for a while on the field we wondered what had been decided. Even with a change of passes in the situation 20–18, Ilkka Parviainen made a good pass to wake up those on the field, after which we got a 23–25 victory in the final set.

Change of sides, and towards the second set with the same opening six. The beginning in the second set was also tight, but you won’t be left wondering about it for too long. The situation was 8–7, after which our Danish reinforcement Kimi scored 2 points in a row, with a technique learned maybe from beach volleyball. After that, the level of performance dropped again, from which we quickly recovered and took the lead of the game 13–15. Wartti’s timeout worked, after which Wartti took the lead from 17–17 and kept it until the end. Second set for Wart 25–23.

The same opening six and a tight start to the third set. The set was 5–1, from which we started to tighten until the situation was 7–7. From there, we alternately went to the situation 11–12, where we took Ilkka for the pass exchange. He then served 6 really bad passes, which helped the team wake up just enough to win the set 12–25.

Ploki–Bombbeba: Dips and peaks

Then a break for one game, refueling and scouting the opponents for the next game. In the second game of the tournament, the opponent was Bombbeba, familiar to some from last season.

Against Bombe, the same tunes continued. A rough start with the same opening six as against Wartti. In a 6–10 situation, we took a timeout and a change of passes, Jami Piippo on the bench and Matias Viikilä on the field. The set still continued with Bombbe leading to a situation of 8–14, from which we woke up to play again for a while and tightened the situation to 15–15. Then the level dropped again and still a little tight to the 22–24 situation, but then the opponent was able to break the set 22–25.

A slightly different approach was tried for the second set, with the same opening as in the previous sets, and played from the beginning of the set. After the time-out, Bombbe got to 12–10, after which we started playing again and played the rest of the game well and won the game 25–14.

The same opening six of the third set, with which the start was even until the 4–4 situation. From there we started to take control of the game until the situation was 8–4, where a change of passer was made again, Jami on the bench and Matias on the field. At 13–7, the level of performance dropped and the opponent came close 13–12, but we didn’t let them pass and started playing again. The opponent even got past us in the 19–20 situation, but we, led by Aksu, won the set 25–22.

The balance of the day: The third place in the series is maintained

So there was one dangerous situation left from the day, where Aksu was about to break his ankle, 6 sets played, 4 of which were won, so 4 series points on the board and we remain in third place in the series.

Aksu scored the hardest result of the day: 24 points in both games, i.e. 48 in total during the whole day. The second best result came from Kim, 10 points in the first game and 11 in the second game, or 21 in total. The best game of the whole season was played in the 3rd set against Wartti, so a positive day all round.
